Get in free at Challenger Space Center this Saturday

The Challenger Space Center is offering free admission on Saturday, Sept. 26 in celebration of its participation in the Smithsonian magazine’s Fifth Annual Museum Day, a national effort to promote culture, learning and the dissemination of knowledge.

The Challenger Space Center is providing free admission coupons that can be downloaded at www.azchallenger.org. The coupons are good for two adult admissions and are valid for Sept. 26 only. Read the rest of this entry »

Heard Museum offers free admission this summer

Heard MuseumThe world-famous Heard Museum is offering free admission on Saturdays through Aug. 1.

The museum, located at 2301 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix, is home to both ancient artifacts and contemporary art from Native American cultures. There are hands-on activities as well as museum exhibits, and each child will receive free ice-cream treats thanks to Shamrock Farms and a take-home souvenir bag filled with activity sheets, crayons, stickers and more.

‘Escape 2 Africa’ for free at Mesa Amphitheatre 6/27/09

madagascar escape 2 africa movie mesaThis Saturday, June 27, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will be shown for free as part of Free Family Movie Nights at the Mesa Amphitheatre.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the movie will start at 8 p.m. A large inflatable screen will be on the stage, allowing great views and plenty of seating on the grass and terraces. There will be free bounce houses for the kids, and concession stands will be open for business.

The public is invited to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. No alcohol is allowed.

The Mesa Amphitheatre is located at 263 N. Center St., on the southeast corner of University Drive and Center Street. For more information visit www.mesaamp.com, or call Dyan Dwyer Seaburg at (480) 644-2171.

Free Family Movie Night is being presented by the City of Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities Department. “We wanted to do something for the community that would be fun and inexpensive,” assistant director J.D. Dockstader said in a statement. “The nights in Arizona are wonderful, and we have a great venue for this type of event.”

Other Free Family Movie Nights are being planned throughout the summer.
