Many Fourth of July events are free, but parking varies — so plan well and cram as many into your vehicle as safety will allow to save money for concessions!

Free Adults’ Night Out includes Arizona Science Center lecture

A bestselling author and award-winning science journalist will give a free lecture Friday night, July 3, at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix.

David Ewing Duncan will present “Experimental Man: What One Man’s Body Reveals About His Future, Your Health and Oour Toxic World” at Adults’ Night Out, a free event for anyone 18 and older. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with Duncan’s presentation at 7 p.m. and a showing of Sharks 3D in the IMAX Theater at 8:15 p.m. (regular IMAX fees apply).

Based on award-winning stories in Wired and National Geographic magazines, Duncan’s talk will explore “the brave new world of medicine and environmental testing as he conducts the ultimate writer-as-guinea pig experience on himself. Can personalized medicine that will use not only genetics, but environmental profiles, brain scans and body scans offer tantalizing clues to diseases that could be caused by a combination of genetic mutations and toxins in the environment? Do we want to know so much about ourselves?”

He will books following his lecture until 9 p.m. Books will be available for purchase on-site.

Teens, get your game on in Queen Creek

guitarhero1Do you know a teenager looking for something to do in Queen Creek? The Queen Creek Branch Library is hosting a free teen gaming day Tuesday. Teenagers can socialize and play Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, Mario Kart and classic board games.

The event runs from 2-5:30 p.m. in the library’s Zane Grey Community Room at 21802 S. Ellsworth Road. It’s just for ages 12-18.
