With the first day of school fast approaching, these deals may come in handy:

Borders is currently holding a sale that offers one free book when you buy four. Of course, the free item is the least expensive item — and boxed sets count as one book for this sale. The deal, which ends Monday, July 27, is good in stores and online.

In stores only, spend $50 or more and get a free backpack ($19.99 value).

Finally, “back-to-school essentials” are discounted up to 30 percent.
