Starting Monday, Aug. 17, Groupon.com — the site that posts one-of-a-kind daily discounts in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles and New York — is adding Phoenix to its roster.
A 50 percent-off deal for Trader Vic’s, the Polynesian restaurant at Scottsdale’s hip Hotel Valley Ho, is the maiden posting
at Groupon’s new Phoenix site. You can get $50 worth of food and drink for $25.
Here’s how it works: Each day, the site will offer a new deal from area restaurants, spas, sporting venues, theaters and other entertainment and leisure vendors. The site uses collective buying power — the promise of a minimum number of customers — to negotiate special discounts not found elsewhere.
To get the deal, click the site’s “BUY” button before the offer ends at midnight. If the minimum number of people buy the deal by the end of the day, you get a printable gift certificate in your inbox the next morning, good until the deal expires. If the number of takers is too low, no one gets the bargain (and you won’t be charged), so it pays to pass the deal on to friends and family.
